Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
Page from a Dispersed Ramayana: Picryl After looking over the reading options for the Ramayana, I decided to go with the Narayan version. I chose this version mainly because I wanted to get the traditional story. I also already own the book, so why not use that version! However,  I do plan on utilizing other sources, such as the Tiny Tales, so that I can get multiple viewpoints on the stories.                Hanuman: MantraMaya I chose this comic story because I admired the title being about devotion and courage. When reading the overview of the story, I could see how devotion and courage were important to the plot. I also loved how the ...

Time Strategies

Time Management:  Exit Strategies The articles I read for time management was The Important Habit of Just Starting by Jory Mackay and The Myth of "Too Busy" by Tim Grahl. One thing I found to be helpful in the Mackay article is the fact she points out that not starting work is more painful than actually starting it! I find this to be very true, as I might plan on working and then sit on my phone looking at Twitter or Instagram. Once I realize the time that has gone by, I feel guilty for not doing work. I am typically a hard worker, so I tend to start working once I realize how much I have procrastinated.  Ma...

Class Technology

Blogging Technology:  techDomains While I knew most of the website tools, such as the spellcheck and word-count, I did not know the technology tools. This is my first experience blogging, so using Blogger has been exciting! Blogger has bene really easy to use and looks aesthetically pleasing for how simple it is. I also have not published a website, used image editing tools, or have used Twine for branching stories. I am looking forward to utilizing these tools, as I feel they will allow me to be creative and expand my thoughts on the course subjects.

Class Assignments Impression

I like the fact that this class is very flexible and allows time for reading. I have never had an online course that functioned as a blog and I have really enjoyed the experience so far. I also have never done a semester long project, like the storybook, and am looking forward to putting creativity into that. I also appreciate the amount of extra credit that is available. Sometimes things happen during the semester that I cannot control, so having these extra credit options is a relief to me, especially now with th...

Growth Mindset Thoughts

Growth Mindset                                                                       Growth Mindset Statements: KidsnClicks  I had never heard of the Growth Mindset before, but as my father and mother-in-law are both t eachers, I find it to be an important and interesting topic. I have to be honest, growing up in school I was always told I was "gifted" as I never struggled with school or extracurricular activities. After watching the videos, I wish I had been more challenged and pushed. While I have been successful in college, maintaining my 4.0 GPA and pursuing medical school, I find myself bored and wanting to find more challenges. I also find that I get easily frustrated when I do not understand a topic right away.  Perhaps if I had been taug...

Introduction to Ashley!

Image
My name is Ashley Maggia, which is different from what my class name shows as I have recently gotten married! Since my husband is graduating this spring, we will soon be moving to Madison, WI, which is why the main picture on my blog is the Wisconsin capitol building. Once there, I hope to successfully apply to the University of Wisconsin Medical School for Fall 2022 where I plan to become a doctor and specialize in Cardiology. During my time in college, I have - and still currently - shadow a cardiologist, which is why becoming a cardiologist has become my dream job. I also volunteer at OU Children's, which is a very heartening experience that has taught me multiple things about the importance of healthcare as well as the persona one should have with a patient. This semester I am also conducting research in the biology department. I am currently trying to determine the function of a gene in the female brains of Drosophila , which are a species of small fruit flies. This requires m...

Storybook Favorites and Inspiration

Image
The Epics of Food Paige's Storybook The Sun Mango: Max Pixel This storybook used stories that incorporated food as inspiration. What drew me to this particular storybook was the overall layout. I enjoyed how each section was its own food with a picture, as I was unfamiliar with most of the foods. The introduction also was interesting, as it described the stories and how the Gods interacted with the foods that were mentioned. Overall, I believe this is a well done storybook, as it was aesthetically pleasing, was easy and enjoyable to read, and it was easy to navigate. Tales of Tails The Animals of Hindu Mythology Manu and the Fish: Wikimedia Commons As an animal lover, this storybook immediately caught my eye. I enjoyed the layout of the storybook, as it was easy to navigate, as well as reading the stories. The pictures at the beginning of each story, especially Manu, helped me imagine the story as I read. I also had a laugh at the title of this storybook as it is a play on words t...

Capri, Italy...One of My Favorite Places

Image
Capri, Italy Capri was one of my favorite places I visited when I went to Italy. It was less touristy, being an island, as well as having beautiful sights. One of the sights that I remember vividly is the Blue Grotto. I was taken into this cave by a small boat where we had to lay down to enter. Once inside, the light would shine into the cave and make the water seem to glow. It was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.
